1. When will my belongings arrive?   5. What about pets?
2. How much will it cost?   6. What items will the mover refuse?
3. What's covered by insurance?   7. How do I change my address?
4. Can I load plants on the truck?

1. Q: When will my belongings arrive?
A: For long-distance moves, we'll need to establish a transit time based on the size of shipment. The larger your shipment, the earlier it will be delivered. Smaller shipments usually are consolidated with larger shipments.

2. Q: How much will it cost?
A: Local moves are billed according to hourly rates. Long-distance moves are billed according to weight and mileage. A tariff is used to determine cost and a discount is applied depending on the weight of the shipment and its destination. Cost is usually higher during peak seasons (May through September).

3. Q: What's covered by insurance?
A: If you have a homeowner's policy, check to see whether it insures your belongings during a move. Read carefully to disclose any loopholes. All major van lines provide basic liability coverage at a minimum rate of 60¢ per pound. We do recommend that you purchase additional insurance if the move is not covered by your homeowner's policy. If any items are damaged in transit, do not throw them away - the mover or insurance company will need to look them over.

4. Q: Can I load plants on the truck?
A: In a long-distance move, transporting plants on the truck will probably compromise their health. You'll also need to contact the state department of agriculture in your destination location to see what regulations apply.

5. Q: What about pets?
A: Your mover is prohibited by law from transporting any animals. If your pet can't ride with you to your new home, contact CMS to see about arranging alternative transportation.

6. Q: What items will the mover refuse?
A: Your mover cannot accept perishable items or material that is flammable, toxic, combustible, or explosive. This includes paint, fuel, and bleach.

7. Q: How do I change my address?
A: The U.S. Post Office provides the change-of-address form and other moving tips on-line. You will need to contact subscription services and financial institutions as well to let them know that you're moving. You can make these notifications automatically for a small fee through www.changeaddress.com.
